“The Life and Times of the Continental Soldier” | Rockaway Twp

August 4, 2025 @ 6:00 pm

Rockaway Township Free Public Library

This program features the uniform, weapons, tools, and gear used and carried by the soldiers of the American Army in the Revolutionary War.

John Dwyer will talk about the life and experiences of a soldier in NJ in 1780. This is an ‘in-person’ talk where John Dwyer portrays a soldier serving in the Continental Army which was camped in New Jersey in the Winter of 1780.

He wears the uniform and equipment carried by Revolutionary War soldiers and tells stories about his life, his pay, his food, and clothing and the campaigns he has participated in since 1777. He shows what he is carrying and explains his gear, weapons, and belongings in detail as he passes it around the audience to handle.

For John Dwyer, time will have stopped in 1780 for this program.

Registration is required. Call the library at 973-627-2344.
